Blank Assignment-- Digital Collage
For my blank assignment I chose digital collage. Throughout Processes & Structures this term we have focused a lot on repetition. I was curious about exploring this idea in the realm of digital collage, in which
objects can be repeated at various sizes and manipulated differently. The class has also taught me to look at "stuff" differently, and given more life and character to the odds and ends I have lying around my house. I used a combination of images of objects in my home, my work from New Media New Forms, Processes and Structures, and my paintings in this piece. I used canva, and enjoyed the magic grab feature, in which I could steal the subjects of my painting from their context. I have been thinking a lot about why images might remain in our consciousness, why we notice what we notice. Why do some objects, however simple or quotidian, sometimes jump out at us?
As I've been thinking more about the character of objects and materials this term it has popped up in my journal and dreams: Some musings from my notebook are as follows...
The house made out of sequins that felt familiar in my dream.
The pan-psychism of toys, beads, and household objects. The idea that the object does hold a bit of the universes consciousness.
What makes and object or material different in a sense of nostalgia than taste or smell....
