For my circuitry project I decided to use a new pack of oil sticks I was gifted recently to illustrate a firefly (maybe a bit corny to do fireflies for a circuitry project but I really do love them!) We are nearing the season where these sort of roach-like beetles illuminate grassy patches in parks and in curbside flower beds. For the circuitry aspect of the project I wanted to make the circuit hidden in the drawing and as part of the story as possible. This proved to be a bit challenging and required some trial and error, the circuit did not want to be messed with once I placed it in. I felt like I was negotiating with the circuit-- it really did not want to follow my design, but we eventually worked it out. Another challenge was my choice of material, tape and glue do not want to stick to oil, which was another design challenge I had to navigate.

For this video project I used a combination of footage I took of the Hudson River this winter, videos I already had of the Adriatic, and drawings I made over the course of the winter. I also used AI generated video from Google Flow to animate my drawings, and edited everything together in CapCut. I thought of the piece as a kind of moving collage, where different places, memories, and textures could sit on top of each other. I referenced the underwater scene from the 1984 movie  Splash, which  was a big part of my childhood. I remember a period when mermaids felt really present in culture and in the female imagination, with many mermaid tv shows and movies. On/ Off Experiment

 On/ Off Experiment Over winter vacation, I took a four-day break from technology between Christmas and New Year’s. This included TV, my phone, my computer, and anything else with a screen. I wrote in my journal about the experience, and decided to do this experiment to see whether I was addicted to screens. I found the outcome deeply uncomfortable and enlightening. What made this possible was that I was with my entire family. Ordinarily, the responsibilities of daily life and my need to stay in contact with loved ones would make this impossible (I think). During the first day without screens, time seemed to stretch endlessly. Winter days are usually short; however, time was behaving differently. Gaps that were usually filled by picking up my phone, watching TV, or having the background noise of music or a podcast were simply empty. On the second day, I felt elated. Creative coding

 Scratch project that I found inspiring  https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/815295801/fullscreen/ I'm not really a fan of the aesthetics of scratch but I enjoy the idea that you can build an object that develops it's own consciousness and ideas, for instance in this case, this train or truck experiencing a dream of itself flying. After some uninspiring experimentation with scratch, for my project I decided to try out vibe coding. I was curious just how quickly and smoothly something could be created this way. I used the program base 44 and put in a short query. I was surprised at just how well it created my idea with just a bit of information. Feeling a bit like I cheated on this assignment!
